Zillow listing photo requirements
Landscape, high-resolution, and heavily gallery-driven — the first photo does most of the work.
The short answer
Zillow rental listings expect horizontal (landscape) photos at high resolution — shoot at your phone's full size and don't downscale before uploading. Listings with a complete room-by-room gallery and a bright, wide first image get more saves and enquiries than listings with a handful of dark phone shots. Upload the full set: every room, plus parking, laundry, and outdoor space.

Which photo goes first
The main living area, shot from a corner in daylight with all lights on.
The first image is the only one most people ever see. It decides whether the listing gets opened, so it should be the brightest, widest, most representative frame you have — not the one that happens to be first in your camera roll.
Getting more out of a Zillow listing
- —Lead with the brightest, widest living space, not the exterior — Zillow surfaces the first image in search results.
- —Shoot each room in landscape even if the room feels tall; the gallery crop is horizontal.
- —Include a photo of in-unit laundry and parking. Renters filter on both and disbelieve unphotographed claims.
- —Keep white balance consistent across the set so the gallery doesn't flicker between yellow and blue rooms.
Stay on the right side of the rules
Every major platform prohibits photos that misrepresent the property. Correcting exposure, white balance, and wall geometry is fine — those fix the camera, not the unit.
